Quick View
To assess the risk of developing a cardiovascular disease, to monitor the effectiveness of treatment for high cholesterol levels in the blood and to diagnose inherited apolipoprotein B deficiency.
When there is a positive family history of heart diseases, high cholesterol and triglyceride levels in blood, to assess the risk of developing a cardiovascular disease, to monitor the treatment for high cholesterol, when an inherited apo B deficiency is suspected.
The apolipoprotein B (apo B) test is used to determine a persons risk of developing a cardiovascular disease. The apolipoprotein B (apo B) test is done when there is a positive family history of heart disease, high cholesterol levels or triglycerides levels in the blood. The apolipoprotein B (apo B) test along with other tests is used to diagnose the cause of abnormal lipid levels in the blood, especially when the levels of triglycerides are elevated. The apolipoprotein B (apo B) is concerned with lipid metabolism and is the major constituent of very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL). An apo A-I along with an apolipoprotein B (apo B) test helps to determine an apo B/apo A-I ratio, which is used as an alternative to a total cholesterol/HDL ratio. The apolipoprotein B (apo B) test is done to monitor the effectiveness of lipid treatment. Rarely an apo B test may be ordered to diagnose a genetic problem associated with over- or under-production of apo B.
1. How to lower apo B levels in the body?
Diet and regular exercise.
2. What is apoprotein B?
The apolipoprotein B (apo B) is a protein, involved in lipid metabolism and is the major protein constituent of very low-density lipoprotein and low-density lipoprotein.
