The test is used to screen and diagnose a chlamydia infection. Screening: In women, a screening test is done once a year in sexually active and women younger than age 25, women at increased risk for STD (sexually transmitted disease). In men, testing is recommended once a year if they have sex with other men. Diagnosis: When there are symptoms of STD ( pain during urination, vaginal discharge and abdominal pain in women or unusual discharge from the penis, pain on urination or painful, swollen testicles in men. This test is also done when a newborn has conjunctivitis.
