VLDL is a lipoprotein which has a maximum amount of circulating triglycerides and is estimated by dividing triglyceride value (in mg/dL) by 5 when the triglyceride is less than 400 mg/dL.
3. Is high level of triglycerides associated with any symptoms?
Usually, people with high levels of triglycerides are asymptomatic. Rarely they may have repeated attacks of acute pancreatitis (pain in the upper half of the stomach area that develops suddenly and then gradually gets worse, fever, nausea, vomiting, and sometimes jaundice). They may even develop lesions on the skin called xanthomas( on the back, chest, buttocks, shoulders, and thighs).
