To diagnose adrenal gland problems and pituitary gland diseases (Cushing syndrome, Cushing disease, Addison disease, adrenal tumors, and pituitary tumors).

When signs and symptoms associated with excess or deficient cortisol production are present. When a hormone imbalance that could be caused by a problem of the pituitary or adrenal glands is suspected.
